    Default Garmin tip.....

Sometimes my Garmin 76 and Map76 takes forever to auto locate the satellites.

Garmin gave me this soft auto locate reset procedure (which is not in the manuals).

This soft reset only resets auto locate and doesn't reset all other saved data.

The auto locate for the 2 (76’s) would be the same.

With unit turned off press and hold the page button. With the page button held, press the power button and hold both for 10 seconds then release.

Electronics are a wonderful thing, but the software and hardware designers ain't so much so.

I get frustrated when there is a more intelligent option than just a total wipe and start over. I think that Microsoft pioneered this idea with their self-inflating operating systems. How lame.

My question to all the Garmin designers and their peers, "Why the hell isn't that in the farking manual you dinks keep asking us to read?"

    nitwits!

Thanks for the tip Cane. I'm glad someone had the nerve to tell us we don't have lose all our crap and be punished for buying a piece of electronics that is less than perfect.

So CP, what does the soft reset do persactly? I assume it speeds up the auto locate? And do you know if that same procedure would be true of the 76CSx?

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.

I don't know. My 276 was having troubles locating the satellites. I didn't want to loose all my setups as I forgot how I have the 276 set up, so I called Garmin and got this info.

I don't know for sure about 76CSx, but if it gets where it takes forever to grab the sky, call Garmin.

This kinda makes me wonder about returns. Send a unit in for repair, they know a special code to fix it, and charge you out the tailpipe for 30 seconds work.

This holds true for all the Manufacturers. The all know this type chit and want tell us.
