Al,
Quick run – she’s ‘gonna blow!
Just joking! :D
The ticking sound you are hearing is when the unit pings or transmits to the transducer. This is quite normal and does not mean that anything is wrong or going bad.

I have an old Hummingbird wide 128 and i've noticed the transducer seems to have a clicking/arcing sound when it's turned on. It doesn't seem to affect the operation of the sonar as it resembles closely what my buddies suction cup fishfinder did last night that we used to verify my fishfinder worked and read correctly.
Anybody have any idea as to why that would be? I'll probably be looking up the price for a new transducer or even a new fishfinder in general...

I've got one on the console/transom. I can hear it when I'm up front if I leave it on.
yep, just normal stuff
My Eagle 480 does the same thing.
I couldn't hear that ping if'n my ear was sittin right on the transducer......
Guess there is some advantages to hard of hearin......
