I use a Garmin 72. Very close on waypoints but no maps. I have got $99.00 in the Garmin and $5,000.00 in the 100 stake beds !!

There are several different models in the 72 and 76 family. Just depends on which features you need and what your budget is

    Cabela's -- Garmin® GPS 72 Sensormatic

    Cabela's -- Garmin® GPSMAP 76S

    Cabela's -- Garmin® GPSMAP&#174 76Cx and GPSMAP&#174 76CSx

The above are not all the models in the series though. I have the 76CSX and I'm pleased with it. Keep in mind that mapping and cables is extra.

Also, a lot of folks swear by the Lowrance H20 and H20c.

    Cabela's -- Lowrance iFinder® H20 Handheld GPS

If you have lowrance electronics now, the mapping you currently have should be compatable with the H20 series. Just some $ consideration to take into account.

The features that I wanted were - mapping capability with depth contours and an electronic compass and a color screen. Both the 76CSX and the H2Oc have those features, but I already had the mapping card for the Garmin, so I went that direction.

You can go to the Garmin website and look at all the 72 and 76 models side by side for comparrison.

Also, the H20c is being replaced with the Endura that Cane Pole posted. Probably would be bang up. The Endura has the touch screen (and a larger screen) which is where most of the handhelds are going. I think the Colorado is Garmin's new one with touch screen.

I'll cast my vote for the Garmin 76 too. I had the B&W 76 and upgraded to a 76C. How they can get so much detail (Mapsource software) in tack sharp vivd color is astounding. I got mine on ebay. :D The latest version is the 76CX. This deal is a great one:

I'm still using the old Garmin Etrex . Hey they work., easy to operate and are plenty good enough to find marked brushpiles or stumps. I can fish my spots even without looking at my depthfinder. It's that good and price is right too.

Delorme PN 40. Great Maps & color. The rest not even close. I know because I have used them.

I agree with the Garmin 76 I have a 76CS and love it. The fact that you can zoom in to a 20' scale really seperates them from the competition
