Thread: colors for plastic

I use spike it, do it and mf in some colors. They all make good stuff. Haven't tried bj colors yet.

Seriously look at Spike-It's site. Chameleon, Mint Brown, Motor oil, Pumpkin Watermelon, and Zombie Blood are all changeable.

M-F also has several unique changeable colours.

My personal preference is honestly for the Lureworks (Spike-It) line, they are quite strong and their parent company is a very large manufacturer/supplier to the Soft Bait industry (not just the hand pour market) So you know the products are solid and consistent.

Anglers do those colors bleed. I have the mint brown and like it but had issue with motor oil bleeding. Love the zombie blood too no bleeding there

Dyes bleed, pigments don't. Spike-It (unlike most) labels all their dyes as such (motor oil std dye, cherry red dye, chartreuse dye etc) If they don't call a colour a dye it won't bleed.

I fail to see the problem with dyes that bleed, they make some of the most vibrant colours out there.

Its not a problem if the baits are done a single color and are kept in bags separate from the other tackle when stored or in the tackle box. As Arkansas has mentioned, things can go bad in a hurry other-wise.

You would figure that once you learn which colours are dye based and that they bleed into other colours that this would be painfully obvious, but hey, what do I know?



Both of these baits were pulled from inventory meaning they've been sitting packaged, 10 to a retail bag. Both colours use a dye based colour. Top bait uses Spike-It's Chartreuse Dye 107 to make the Chartreuse colour which is a notorious bleeder with a dark purple, the bottom bait uses Cherry Red Dye 120 which is another notorious bleeder with a very dark smoke. The top bait has been in inventory for almost a year (very seasonal bait/colour) and the bottom almost 3 months. They both seem to work well together to me.

All you need to do guys is learn to use these colours and they can be incredible assets to your arsenal of colours.

***note, I do know there are ways to make similar chartreuse colours without a dye, I have several other chartreuse pigments that don't bleed, this is the only way i could get the colour needed to look the way it needed to ***

Man my motor bleed into the chartreuse and made one ugly bait lol. I personally stay away from the dyes once I found they bleed. Nothing like having a compartment full of baits that look nice and two weeks later they are all bleed out onto one another. Just my preference.

sometimes those ugly Baits will catch a lot of fish don't know if I ever told you guys about making up some jig skirts and I wanted them to be a brownish yellow I mean it was the most horrible color that I've ever seen anyway I threw them in my bag that I usually take out fishing with me and we were fishing in a slew and we were using green and white plastic was not doing anything and I decided to take out that horrible looking brown and yellow well admittedly restarted catching fish don't know what the difference was between the action was about the same the only thing I could think of was that yellow brownish color seem to do the trick so sometimes something ugly works out terrific. just make sure when you are buying colors that they are bleed proof I do use from quite a few different manufacturers all the ones that you guys have mentioned on here I have used basic lay all the manufacturers or companies by either die or pigments and mix them up yourself you can buy pigment from quite a few different companies and mix up your own if you like the pigments that I have bought in the past or 100% pure so a little bit when a long ways basically they take warm oil and mix in the pigments they also do with this with the dye so why not have gone and try some year own mixtures like to see what some of you guys can come up with.

Your best bet is to try a few different venders and see what works for you I order from jacobs baits if I need it in a hurry they have fast shipping and then I go threw mf manufacturing for a bigger variety just have to try what works for you
