If your seriously interested in making your own lures search through here, there are some posts on what all you need to get a good start. I wouldn't waste time on molding your own. Buy a good cnc mold. Will save a lot of time and aggravation. Jacobs have good products and great service. Do-it and Many other great companies also. Not a cheap hobby to get started into but its alot nicer catching fish or winning tourneys on your own baits.

Is it worth it? Is it worth having a bait and colors that cannot be found locally on store shelves and display hooks? I just came off my crappie lake after having fish 2 different baits in two colors, something only my boat had, and we stayed pretty darned busy catching fish. It was worth every penny invested, every burn gotten, to fish right up to boats anchored and soaking minnows without any hits while we were non-stop fish on.

Does anyone know of a color mixing chart/program for use with the colors of plastic that are available or is it just something you get a feel for as you go along. Can you reuse plastics that you were not happy with?

I have never ever used a color chart I just copy everything that ctom post

There ya go Bob. I don't have a thing to hide as far as colors go. Boar, go to a Hobby Lobby or a Michaels Crafty store and look in the paint departments for a color wheel. If you have trouble with colors a wheel helps big time and for the few bucks you'll have to spend one can save you a lot of wasted plastic. All of us have had to start somewhere with colors and I don't think anyone will argue the fact that taking good notes as you mix and develop colors is an essential part of the learning curve. You'll find a pet color or two or twenty that you make often enough that doing so becomes habit and you won't need to follow notes for them, but everyone has come across a color by chance that they like and if you don't have a record of what went into it to make it you'll be spending a lot of time guessing. And wishing you'd taken notes. lol

I think a lot of us guys use your imagination when it comes to combination of colors you never know what may work I found out from experience a lot of different shades of brown believe it or not and I found the best one to be a yellow brown it may look terrible to you but the fish really go for specially in muddy water but you will never know what the fish really want into you carry a wide variety of different color combinations yes using a color chart will make some pretty plastic baits but who are you trying to catch the fisherman or the fish. if you choose to catch fishermen use the color chart if you want to catch fish use your imagination again.
