As for eyes, I don't put eyes on jigs and have never seen an instance where eyes helped the bite. One the plastics, like these little guys, I fish these on a plain, un-painted head and there are times when the eyes improve the bite a little but honestly just plain plastic without eyes does me good most of the times. Right now the average water temp here is hovering at about 35 degrees where its open water and 33 degrees under ice. A fish's metabolism slows way down in these water temps and fish tend to slip up to a target and study it a bit before committing to a hit. Eyes certainly have to help orient the fish to the head of the bait when the fish have time to study what they are thinking of eating. Your question Bob, ultimately is answered by saying that I don't speak "fish" and until I do I cannot accurately answer the question.
Most of these baits I show are a one time thing. I hold on to them and when I go into schools to work with kids they sure appreciate the eyes. Boy Scout groups I work with on tackle making always like to get eyes on their baits and having samples like these just plain trips their triggers. I don't need eyes on baits to catch fish but the kids sure like taking their baits home to show off and the eyes just finish a bait like nothing else does.
they sure look good CTom. You really know how to work colors. Great work.CF
