I would like a little guidance on re-melting plastic worms and pouring them into a 2 piece open ended mold. I have a microwave, Pyrex measuring bowl, metal spoon, plastic worms and safety equipment.
1.) What's the best method for re-melting the plastic?
2.) What should I be looking for as it rides in the microwave?
3.) Any other things I might be over looking.

Chop the worms up in small pieces, the smaller the better.... 1" will be good. Its good to mix in a little raw plastic as it will help keep from scorching and yellowing. Id mic it at 30 second increments until you get the hang of it. Once it starts melting drop it to 15 or 20 seconds a pop. The main safety thing to consider is ventilation. You dont need to breath the fumes very much at all. This aint lead!

Also be sure to stir it when you are checking it. Wear gloves that will withstand hot surfaces up to 450 degrees. Janns netcraft has them Herb for under six dollars. Ventilation is key and keep hot plastics away from water. I have found several Pyrex measuring cups at thrift stores. They are better for pouring two piece molds like you have than a bowl. Eventually you will want aluminum molds and a quality injecter. Check LureCraft or Jacob baits.

Agree with what was said:

• pyrex cup (not the large one)
• metal butter knife (not a spoon)
• raw plastic to cover plastic chunks
• 30 seconds - stir and repeat
• if the stuff starts to smoke, it's way too hot
• a glass candy thermometer is a great investment to show how low the heat can be to pour (for me 300 degrees) and prevent browning on the second or third reheat
• consider adding softener - old plastic has a habit of becoming too firm from multiple reheats; the best tail action requires soft plastic the thicker it is
• too reheat for a second consecutive pour after the first pour only takes about 20 seconds
