What is nice about using a butter knife as a stirrer is the rounded end somewhat conforms to the bottom of the Pyrex cup and makes me feel like I am really mixing up all the plastisol. If buying used Pyrex, don't buy anything with chips or cracks. I bought a silcone pot holder to put the Pyrex on when I take it out of the microwave - you do not want to put it on anything that will allow a quick change in temperature.
