Smoking Plastics
I have read that if you heat your plastic too long it will burn and smoke. Every time I heat up my plastics I get smoke but the plastic is not burning b/c the color is not changing. I get the smoke regardless of temp. What am I doing wrong. I typically only get my plastic up to 300 or so therefore it should not be burning.

Baitman is dead on. If You are not adding stabilizer, You need to do so. Especially Your brighter colors. If You heat them many times without stabilizer, they will start to discolor. Only way to get around it is have a bunch of molds and use the plastic up quickly.CF

Mine smokes every time it's ok. Trust me you will know if you burn it, I have burnt some a couple times before I bought a lasor temp guage so keep up the good work.

Thanks guys. I do use stabilizer and that makes sence to me now. Just did not put two and two together. So my next question is how much stabilizer is enough? I use about 15 drops for every cut of plastic and I have done many reheats on the plastics with them holdin up well; however, I just pulled that count out of the sky. My mold count is very limited so I don't use much when I shoot and reheating is a given for me.

If You are reheating alot and Your plastic is holding its color, 15 drops is a good amount of stabilizer. Keep doing that. Remember, stabilizer is sacrificial. It is saving Your color.CFOriginally Posted by lcookie
