jeepguy, that is the problem I have had in years past trying to make these, I always used a barbed collar and it did not work well. That is why I did not fool with it anymore. They seem to work much better without a barbed collar. You are right about threading with the needle, I just use a big eye needle and then cut the feather or whatever until it is thin enough to put in the eye and then thread it through.
That is how I do it too. When I attach it to the jig head i will use one drop of superglue.
