Default We were spared and blessed

We were spared and blessed this time and narrowly avoided being hit by the big F5 tornado that hit Tuscaloosa, Hueytown, Bessemer, Pratt City, Birmingham and countless small towns in between. Wind speeds were around 138 mph. This monster was said to be 1.5 miles wide and stayed on the ground well over three hours. So far 259 confirmed dead in North/Central Alabama. Our city Fairfield, is right in the midst of all these cities. The tornado missed us by less than 5 miles or we would have taken a direct hit on my house. Our area was just without power for four days, so I say we were spared and blessed by Jesus.

Our pastor who lives three miles away in Pratt City totally lost his house and everything. My wife's brother lives in Pleasant Grove and suffered significant damage to his house. Debris from Tuscaloosa (42 miles away) was in our yard. Cars from Tuscaloosa were deposited in some places in Pratt City.

The wife and I were honkered down under a sofa in the family room with football helmets and hard hats on our heads. I have never been so terrified in my life, even when we lived in Kansas where tornadoes were more common. This was a perfect storm and caused major damage in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee before going further north. Keep us all in your prayers as this area of the nation recovers.

Hopefully in a few weeks I can go back to fishing.

Yep we were also blessed at my house in MS.....had a small tornado cross the road in front of my house.....lots of damage to my neighbors.....all I had was two power poles blown down and a few pieces of tin on the shed. But.....there is supposed to be some more bad weather coming in Sunday night so Take care Ship as when they leave here they always go to Alabama.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Just wanted to let all my friends here know I am safe and sound. I was very lucky. A morning tornado hit my campus where I would normaly be at when it hit, but luckily I was not there. Then one hit the hospital area where I had been about an hour after I left Cullman. I am very blessed. My family had 3 freezers full of food, two generators and grills to cook on. We fared really well and got our power back today. I am very thankful for what I have and hope all my friends here are safe and sound as well.

I am also glad to hear that you were okay. I don't think any of my friends back your way went without having a tornado come close. What a terrible, terrible year that we are having. But thank God that you are safe and sound.

    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

It is amazing what mother nature can do. I have heard similar stories of that happening. There is a facebook page where people can post things for other people to claim like pictures or whatever. Someones baby picture from Mississippi ended up in someones yard in AL and it was one of the only pictures the family had and it will now be returned to them thanks to facebook. A friend of mine said nothing was happening much at all around her house and a roof from a house landed in her yard, she has no idea where it came from. I own some land not too far from Henager and I have not been out to check my property yt and may not get too for a while. I wonder how far Henager is from where you live.
