Actually, the ones I've used have an insert that makes a hole in the jig when it's poured. After it cools and you've painted it, you glue in the brush or weed guard. Some guys that make them will (upon request) send you the weed guards separately so that you can powder paint them with the colors you want, then you can glue in the guard yourself.

excellent, thank you.....like I said I wasnt sure how it worked, so now I know.....guess it makes sence for it to work like that...the lead may melt the plastic/fiber when poured.....do you know if they are all like that or do some pour the head with the weed guard & hook all ready in the mold?? more so curious than anything now.....I always tied em on and fished with them, never really gave much thought as to how they are made, until now.....thanks again, God bless

I haven't seen any that you pour with the guard in, but I suppose it's possible with a wire guard.

I used to pour my own lead head jigs & sinkers etc. Made some of those weed guard styles, mold had a insert piece to make the hole for the weed guard, which was glued in later. Never heard of anything that could be used when pouring that could stand up to the heat of molten lead.
