they are what i use 99% of the time.... love em....
you know I think it honestly a mental hurdle to get over, I use em all the time....but I either use the bristle guards or the single fiber guard.....Im pretty confident that for me it dont make a diff....but, theres things other people swear by that I just can get to work....the way (and areas) I fish most of the time if I didnt used weedless I spend more time tying on than fishing....

Let me just interject these little tidbits into the conversation, as it pertains to weedless jigheads :
I now have MORE jig bodies (plastics of many shapes/sizes), than I've ever had in my life. WHY ?? Because I DON'T LOSE as many as I did when I used a open hook jig.
I can fish places that I'd have passed on, in the past, simply due to the fact that I'm confident I won't hang up my jig as often.
I don't miss, or lose, any more fish with a weedless jighead ... than I did with a open hook jighead.
I fish with 4lb test mono, on UL to Med action rods from 5' to 8' ... primarily casting my baits ... and I don't set the hook any harder or softer, than I did before I switched to weedless.
I used to be a skeptic, myself, about weedless jigs. And, even after proving to myself that they worked, I was still a little leery of the brush style guards. But, not anymore !! In fact, about the only time I don't use a weedless jig, is when I'm longline trolling. While it would seem that, using a weedless jig for this purpose would help stop hanging in a brushpile, that you just trolled over .... the fact that your forward motion & stationary rod is what sets the hook, lends itself to work better with an open hook jig. An open hook jig will usually get the hookpoint "started" into the mouth of the fish, as soon as the fish engulfs the bait ... then the foward motion of the boat, and the stationary rod position, will begin to sink the hookpoint even deeper ... and your action of pulling on the rod (lifting it out of a rodholder & jerking it forward) will finish the job. Weedless jigheads "can" be pulled away from, or out of the mouth of, a timidly biting fish ... when trolling. But, when casting/jigging ... the timing of the hookset is faster, and therefore there's less chance of the jig being pulled away from the fish, or the fish expelling the jig.
In reality, I honestly think I have caught MORE fish using a weedless jighead ... for the fact that I can confidently fish in heavier cover, still using my favorite methods, and more often than not expect to get the jig back ... with or without a fish on it.
I prefer the Y-guard style jighead .... but, have no qualms about using a brush style, or even a single strand style. My confidence, in weedless jigheads, comes from over 20yrs of using them ... with positive results.

Good Info. C.P. I'm pretty new to the Crappie fishing. I've fished for 60+ years, never did a lot of jig fishing only for Walleyes. That information is really helpful to me. Thanks.

c.p. is absolutely correct....Thumbs Up
I'm with you PAPPY.....the only time I'm not using weedless is when I'm trolling, rest of time its weedless w/a #2 hook for me

You and Pappy make a convincing argument. 90% of my fishing now is from shore but I am always willing to try something new. I am almost 66 now and I guarantee you that for at least 56 of those years I never used a weed guard. I was always told losing jigs was a part of crappie fishin.
Send me five in a 1/16th size and the bill for them and I will give them a try at least.

I have used weedless hooks many years ago when I used to fish for bass a lot with plastics they are very effective for round brush piles and rocks I have never used weed guard we thought about carrying the jig heads or people that wanted them I fortunately would like a few too work with so I will go ahead and find out more from my jig makers and when we get back to going we'll see what we can do I've always had the impression that the guards would interfere with the fish striking so this would be very interesting to find out and I do lose about 50 jigs on my fishing trips or more.
