presto pot
Still looking at the possibility of pouring soft plastic and wondering about the presto pot with the stirring feature from bears. I plan on buying a couple of injectors and making baits that way. One company had a dual injector for pouring two colors. I may be interested in that one. It just seems easier and cleaner. At any rate, is the presto pot what I need for injector pours? Furthermore, do I need to go the injector route or is there a better way? I just need a little advice because this is a hobby that I know nothing about. I would like to make a few plastic worms, plastic body jigs, 2" curly tails and go from there. I have no desire to make money with this, but I would like to get good production so I can save time and go fishing. Also, I will probably be giving away more baits than I keep. I like to pour lead and tie feathers and usually end up giving most of those baits away. I think its cool when someone catches fish on something I make. Thanks!

Well, presto pots are good for large production of the same color. Most folks use pyrex measureing cups and a microwave. (they have to be Pyrex Brand) The dual injectors are good but its easier to use a divider plate (it divides your mold in half) and shoot one color then shoot the other. Its a great hobby and you will enjoy it

yes, I'll agree with you mo Prestel pots are good for large batches but I do not hardly used it to that I have. I mostly use a microwave and a little Pyrex cups . If you are planning on using a injector from bear the a single one for one color is fine. I believe bass tackle has a good 2 color injector I'm sure the guys will give you more input on a different tools. I am also just a beginner and don't let any of the guys tell you different. We are still practicing mo make garlic plastic baits you do not have to worry about mosquitoes or vampires and you definitely do not have to worry about anybody fishing close to you and you definitely won't have to worry about flies because they are all dead . We definitely do get around on here and welcome aboard I'm sure that you will enjoy the hobby.

Thanks guys! I think now I'll just get a cheep low wattage microwave and try that first. It seems as though everyone has to have one anyway. What is considered low wattage? I'll get me a little plastic, color, glitter, a few molds and get going here real soon. I made up a couple of hundred football jigs 1/8-3/4 with rubber skirts. I buy my breakfast from a little country store every morning before work and got acquainted with the owner. Every now and then I'll have a few float n' fly baits and others I make in my truck and I show him. He has been after me for two years to sell him some baits. I have never give in to him. I just don't want to sell them because I don't have time to make them for that purpose as I have another business. I usually give them to my buddies and store them away for my little boy. At any rate, he has just about talked me into selling him some football jigs. He wants 30 3/4oz. How much are they worth? Also, they are weedless. If I can get my wife to help me, I may post some pictures of the jigs I make. Thanks!

When you nuke your plastic be sure you start by sneaking up on your temp. 1/2 a cup 1 minute add a few seconds at a time until you get 350 or so degrees . anything over 370 is heading into danger zone. Glass candy thermometer helps for beginners. most use infrared point and shoot thermometers. NEVER EVER take your eyes of the stuff. Use all the plastic you heat up at once saves the possibility of burning on reheat. If you ever burn it you won't forget that smell soon. Heck your dog won't even come to you.

On the jig selling thing, I look at it as in... not how much they are worth, its how much they are worth to me. If they want them great, if not they have a ton of great companys that sell them cheap and by the millions. Have fun I sell some, I give them away, I loose some lol. A gallon of plastic, few colors, couple molds and a microwave and you will have a blast. You will enjoy catching fish alot more too.
