Thread: has anybody tried airbrushing plastic baits

I do it alot on my swims. The paint is from Lure Craft. It is called soft plastic paint. Not very many colors but if you have some powder pearls and colors you can buy the clear and make your own colors. I will tell you one thing if done the same day you pour it will not come off. You will have to cut it off if you dont like it. Definatly buy there retarder and not the thinner, this will extend the drying time. It being only a few minutes with the retarder and way less with the thinner. Clean you brush with acetone right after you use and it will be fine. I have a how to video on youtube about dipping swim baits that has some painting on it . Look up franksrooty2 and look at DIPPING SWIM BAITS this will give you an idea of some painting. what size frog and shad are these? I think that shad would be killer on the bass at a causeway I fish. certain times of the year the threadfin run through there and the bass just go crazy over them. What exact color plastic is that is it like a silver and pearl mixture, it sure gleams the right color.

We will have to get some of that stuff your frog looks terrific with the spots we are wanting to airbrush scales on my plastic baits and we have tons of powder to mix in with the color I have all of Luer craft colors that they have for their plastic . There are quite a few of them that are powder

Just mix them with there clear and you have alot of colors. You can even add some of there colors to the clear and powders to make trully unique colors. Scales are easy just get some netting and one light coat of a comtrasting color , then you got it. The contrasting color can be strong because it will be light and usually transperant. good luck with your quest. Frank

thank you Frank. We will definitely give it a shot.

I wish I knew how to do that stuff. I jsut do not have time to learn right now. I do need to take a look at your videos though.

I think the frog and shad are 4". The shad color is just pearl and .08 holigrafic flake. The backs are just painted light black. The shad you can get from Basstackle in 2,3,4,5and 6". So size is not an issue. Frank

yes I was thinking about getting that 2 or 3 inch shad. thanks frank
