In our government-controlled schools we are taught that Lincoln was our greatest president because his war ended slavery and saved the Union. As usual, the other side of the story – the side that reflects poorly on the government – somehow gets lost. – Richard J. Maybury, The Abe Lincoln Hoax

(note: you used the wrong code line ... always use the IMG Code line, unless you uploaded the picture into Photobucket at a size larger than 640x480 )

The IMG Code line will show ONLY the picture. (recommended all members use)

The HTML code doesn't work on this site, so you'll only get a long line of code that won't show anything ...except the code. (not recommended, as it's useless on this site ... because html is turned off)

The Direct Link line will put a URL link in your post ... then viewers have to click on that to see the picture. It's OK to use, and even suggested to use for pictures larger than 640x480, but not necessary if you upload your pics into Photobucket with the "Large 640x480" size option.

The Email/IM line will put a URL link in your post, but when you click on it to view it ... you get the picture, surrounded by ads & a banner that gives up the name of your Photobucket account. I don't recommend using this one, since you have no control over what ads are shown.

Stump Hunter is correct ... it will show up once you hit the Submit Reply button. But, you can & should use the "Preview Post" button, first This will show you what the post/picture will look like BEFORE you put it on the site. That's handy, because it keeps you from having to go back & edit your post if there's a problem.

I wish we didn't have to use photo bucket. I don't know why this site cannot use a regular download on pictures it would be so much simpler Don't you guys agree.

snake I definately agree. I hate doing the photobucket thing. Maybe because I am too lazy I guess. It is more difficult for me to do. I have heard that storing all the images on this site takes up a lot of space on the servers or something I am not sure. There definately must be a good reason for slab wanting us to use photobucket, otherwise he would not mind at all if we put them all on here.

My question is if it just shows the picture on the post and nothing else, then how did people know I was not using photobucket before?

Pappy, I always preview posts that I put pictures in he he

to your question I don't know all I know is I hate photo bucket because it's so time consuming. My way of thinking is due to people that advertise on this site use photo bucket. I complained before but there is a reason why they do I forgot what that reason was a long time ago and simply just use photo bucket the only problem is you're typing out for each picture what it normally takes you about 2 seconds to download regular pictures straight from your picture gallery. And I'm assuming that everybody feels like we do. The other side that I belong to is the same thing.

    Talking Now, now guys ...

There's no law that says you HAVE to use Photobucket, Slab & the site are not being sponsored or compensated by Photobucket, and you can use/post pics right off your computer files.

I'm the one that suggests using Photobucket, but there's other hosting sites that work just as well. I recommend using Photobucket for several reasons:

Photobucket allows you to pick the size picture you post ... which is why I recommend using "Large 640x480" when you upload your pics to Photobucket. It's the biggest size that still shows good detail, but doesn't fill or overfill the computer screen (esp for those with 15" monitors). If you use the image links provided by the site, they have to be of a certain maximum size. That may require you to use the Paint program, or download a resizing program, in order to get the picture down to a size that's acceptable to the site links.

Photobucket is a hosting site ... which means that even if my computer crashes and I lose all my files, all my pictures are still accessible once I get my computer back into operation. They're duplicates of what I have in my computer files, just stored on another site. The free version, which is what I use, has a ton of space for pics/videos. You could probably store a couple thousand pics, in the free version, and still not fill up your account space. And, even if you did, you could just aquire another free setup (under a different name/email).

Very large pics DO consume more server space on the site, which is why I recommend the 640x480 size as a maximum. And, even though Ed has said that the site can handle all the pics .... I do know that he has upgraded the server size, several times, which I know isn't free. That's why we have the ads, sponsors, & donations.

One reason I don't make a point of recommending using the site's image attachment links .... is because I can't edit them, if need be ... I would have to delete the whole post, just to get rid of a picture that's in violation of site rules. I can remove/edit a hosting site posted picture, by simply removing the code from the post ... or I can change the IMG part of the code to URL (which would leave a link to the picture, but the picture itself would not show in the post). I did just the opposite of that, to post Seeker's picture in my reply post :D

Seeker .... to answer your question :
" ... if it just shows the picture on the post and nothing else, then how did people know I was not using photobucket before?" ... the answer is simple : Right click on the picture, and when the drop down menu comes on, left click on "Properties" (bottom of the menu). The Properties box will come up, and you can see where the picture originates by looking at the address
