Bobby Garland Mold

i made some molds out of POP just to try them. i made them just as Bwillaub made his resin mold. I then melted some Plastic worms I had left from My bass fishing days and poured into the molds. One side looks perfect but the other side cools with a big sump into it or i end up overfilling to make sure the tail fills and it looks like something My dog did. Any suggestions? Might need to try a two piece but can You pour two colors in a two piece homemade mold? Thanks.CF

crappiefarmer, some of mine were made out of pop molds as well. the best thing I have found to do is make my batter a little more wet than normal, not so wet that it wont dry but wet enough to dry out very smooth. If you get it real smooth and flat, when you pour them you can over fill them a little and then take something smooth and flat and press flat against the pop while the plastic is still hot. This will push the excess plastic off tot he side and you should be able to peel the trim off easily or you can get one of those real small sewing cutters that looks like a pizza cutter and once you lay them on a flat surface you can run it up the sides and the excess will slice right off of it. For two colors you can pour just a little of one color in each cavity and then top them all off with another color.

crappiefarmer I forgot to mention. You can pour two colors in a two piece. Just get both colors hot and pour one color in one side and then close the mold and pour in the other color. Let the first color cool just a few seconds so it does not run when you put them together but dont let it cool so much that it wont bond good.

I found some more interesting information. Some of these old post are ready chock-full guys and I find it very interesting on some of the mold making that was going on. Take a look at the pictures that some of the baits they are fantastic looking not to mention they look very similar to some of the stuff that we are having made now. I promise I won't dig anymore about. Ha ha.

snakeRiver pours some nice two tone baby shad stingers....I have bought some from him and they look great, hope to try them out shortly.

are you talking about the hand pour molds. I would love to have some of those made in aluminum and use some of this Spike-it plastic for the oven.

some of those plastic baits are very interesting. I went to that post I noticed that they AV Shad Stinger body with the long tails like 4 inches is the whole plastic baits size those look very interesting. I just looked at your plastic baits. I found some in there that I would like to have made into molds were did you not want any of this stuff used I definitely enjoyed reading a little bit from crappy day. It's good to read some of his old post or comments. Hopefully we can bring some of this stuff back out into the open and work with it more I would like to know what materials that you guys use to make your molds. Of course this is not going to be a hot looking baits but it's not post to be it's post to be for something most likely for your own personal use, and again I would love to have this stuff made in two aluminum flat molds.we are going to take half of my baby Shad Stinger mold and make some plastic in it in the oven to see what everyone thinks of course you will not have a top to it but there might be other applications that we did not think about I will mess with this tomorrow. If I get time.
