Thread: Condos under construction!

Man those look great!!! I wonder if you can use river cane instead of bamboo. I don't know where any bamboo is, but I've seen some river cane. I've been putting out hardwood brushpiles but I sure would like to put some bamboo or cane out too. Good luck with those.

Basically the same thing, it just doesn't grow nearly as large. A 1" diameter stalk of river cane that is 10 feet tall is some very large stuff where I live. The branches are much more compact, also.

River cane is a north american native plant. For structure, it's much less durable and typlicaly small narrow width. Asian bamboo is very long lasting and has the spreading branches that make crappie structure so attractive to fish. I have acess to 2 kinds, one I call India cane and one called true bamboo. The real bamboo can reach 40' tall and be 5" at the base. It is great for deep water where you can get the bushy part to be 15 to 18' tall. India cane is bushy from 4' to about 12' tall and is best for shallow water.
