Pick out two permanant objects that line up with each other and then pick out two more that do the same in a different direction. (Example: Corner post on end of pier that lines up with sweetgum tree to the North and dead log at waters edge that lines up with cell tower to the East.) Much like shooting a rifle with open sights.

The line up method works great, be sure to know how everything on the bank looks in summer and winter so you will be able to spot it. Save up for a gps, you can get one for around $100 that will be very accurate.

I know most of you are using gps, but for those who don't use it how can you locate your structure other than driving in circles until you graph it. Do some us triangulation or marker buoys. Give me your ideas.

If you really want to save time and get on your spots get a cheap Garmin . The Etrax has been on sale at Academy Sports for about 80.00. You can buy a cheap depth finder like a Cuda and a Garmin Etrax GPS both cheaper than most people spend on a depth finder. I've taught several friends how to use the GPS in a few minutes.
