Squatters... I didn't know they had a name for em'... LM@O!

Squatter- My name for the guy who watches you fish a submerged piece of structure, waits for you to leave, then sits(squats) on it the rest of the day and every day thereafter. He isn't willing to do the work of making or finding his own, but totally willing to beat yours to death.
I found and fished a submerged brush pile in a cove on my home lake last year. Fished it every time out for most the year. A guy in a pontoon watched me one day, then it seemed like he and his group of 4 or 5 buddies were there every time I went back after that.......SQUATTERS.

When you put stuff in the lake it instantly becomes public property. I have come to terms with this and can live with it. There is so much cover out there, and so many fisherman with sophisticated electronics you can't keep it a secret. I do, however, despise the squatters that follow you and next time you go out they are fishing your spots.

We've been using a driving pole since the late 90's. Same style as above but made out of a 10' stick of 3/4" aluminum conduit. We would put a reducer bushing from 2" to 3/4" on the bottom instead of the wood insert so that the driver had a little weight to it. It helps when you are driving the beds on the edge of a drop and the bottom is really hard. Also we put a coupling on the top end and leave it open so that air escapes when your putting the stake in the water and you can add different length pieces to extend your driver. As far as them bushwackers are concerned, its just something you've gotta live with. Sooner or later, that sidefinder technology is gonna be cheaper and there will be more of 'em.

On my depth finder, I cannot tell if the brush pile on the screen is natural or man-made. When items, like condos, stake beds and brush piles are placed in public lakes, they become public property because (on Corps lakes) and most public lakes, "Waters of the US" fills the lakes.

I put out my fair share of brush piles etc., but when doing so on a public lake, then you must rememeber that all "additions" are in the public domaine. If you are sensitive about others fishing "your spot," then, to allieviate your anxiety, perhaps you should consider fishing (and enhancing) a private lake.

A public lake is a public lake is a public lake. Live and let live, buddy. Life's too short to hate anyone--or to even be annoyed by others that happen to be fishing "your" brush piles.

Man you guys are touchy. No offense meant by the squatter thing. Your points are well taken. I'm not saying they shouldn't fish it or that I own the stuff. Sorry to have ruffled some feathers.
As far as the ideas for stake drivers, thank you. I will put one of them to use I'm sure.
