The only thing I hate about hedge is handling it.You want to make sure you wear long sleeves and have a good pair of leather gloves.The way the branches grow makes plenty of area for the fish to hide in and can be fished fairly easily with a weedless head.Dont know if it the same tree you referred to J, but they grow large green looking fruit( good for keeping spiders out of the basement by the way) about the size of a large grapefruit and the squirrels like them.As mentioned before they last for years.

bull had probably nearly choked on one once though - long story!

My neighbor has a huge magnolia tree and those leaves are enormous. Seems like they would make exceptional cover. Wonder how it would last under water? I may have to hack off a few limbs this spring and test it. Or figure out a way to use the leaves that are everywhere on the ground.
On a side note, the leaves make amazing cover for worms. I can go out there and just kick them over with my foot and collect dozens of worms in no time at all even during the heat of summer.
