    Default Pine stake bed?


    Found a deal on some pine boards that are 3x2x8. I figure I can get 3 stakes per board, or 6 at four foot. Has anyone ever done a pine stake bed. Has it produced and how long should the pine last?

    Soft woods like pine won’t last as long as hardwoods. But they should last 3-4 years if they stay submerged and not exposed to air. If it was me depending on how deep the water is, I think I would make some up full length and some 4 ft. Then as you drop hem mix them up close together.

    Driving stakes or building frame/mat style beds? Kiln dried pine will take quite a bit of weight to sink. Be better off to find a sawmill or cabinet maker and get their trimmings. It will more than likely be cheaper than any deal on commercial boards if it costs you anything at all.

    I have drove in lots of Cedar and Hardwood stakes . I even did a couple with Pine . The Pine will work but thicker lasts longer which ever you use for stake beds .

    Maybe slabs from a saw mill. Hardwood should be easy to come by. Got some slabs years ago and turned them into tomato stakes.
