My newest project

I finally got tired of hauling multiple boat loads of buckets to make new structure. So I had all this material laying around and put it to good use.

I built two 4' x 8' barges out of old cement forms and loaded them with pallets. Then poured about 500 lbs of cement in each.

Loaded some cane on the trailer and headed to lake.


Got to ramp and attached cane to barges launched boat and 1 barge towed to desired location and pulled the plug

Looks like a lot of work, but I bet they'll work. If those are oak pallets, they'll last for years. I've been fishing some that have been in the water 8 or 9 years and they're still solid. We tried floating some 8'x4' pallet beds into place, but just used rock from shore and a few blocks to sink them. One sank like we planned and the other tilted on it's side, crappie didn't care though.

It was really not much work compared to making buckets of boo. This was do to form boards already built. I would not make these from scratch and I would not tow them very far. We towed them about 1/2 mile from ramp. Really worked out great and sank perfectly. Yes the pallets are oak and should be there a while.

Gramps used to volunteer to get rid of folks' Christmas trees - and they all appreciated it greatly. So did we. He'd wire a burlap sack of stones to each one, and he had a great way of placing them: He simply walked them out on the ice in January, and they'd settle down in place off my uncle's dock when the ice went out in March. The trees didn't last as long as the PVC will, but then Christmas comes around about the same time every year......
