Alot of guys bad mouth christmas trees for structure. I been useing them for years. This is what i do. After christmas i pick up as many as i need put them in the woods or wherever and let them set a year to get real dry.When i put them in i stand them up in a cememt block.I put 3 or 4 in with gaps in between.Alway caught fish within aweek. They do last 2 to 3 yrs but poles last alot longer.

Are we allowed to just drop this in the water? If I would of known earlier I would of have like 30 christmas trees in the water.

As far as just plain dense cover that many types of fish will spawn on or use as cover while fry or juvenilles, there`s not much beating ye olde "C" trees. Cut a 10-12" ring gap around a tree and SEE how many crappies, bluegills, bass and even walleye and cats take up residence...and used WITH hardwoods and/ or PVC attractors enmass they affect 3-5X their volume

As Lowell said...we have found in our home lake that there is nothing better for providing quick cover for spawning fish, juvenile fish, or to attract baitfish...the only problem with Christmas trees is that they break down so fast and have to be replenished every year or every other year.
With a major reservoir project like ours, it is not possible to keep re-doing all of those areas over and over again...Christmas trees are great for docks or other smaller areas, that have easy access where you can easily replenish them when needed.
We also heard the rumors that the resin would repel fish but just like any other cover we have put in, Granted, our lake was barren and the water is stained, but, EVEN WHEN FRESH, within minutes the Christmas Trees are holding fish and this continues for the life of the cover!

somethings last longer but hey, we are going to have Christmas ! we used to put bailes of hay off our dock and crappie will cover them up . last one season . maby .

Actually, "C" trees like blue spruce will last maybe 4+ yrs, depending upon the body of water`s fertility; most cedars will last 6-10 yrs, depending upon their size. Green cedar lasts longer than dried trees...

I've caught many crappie off Crimus trees

I personally have done VERY well on them over the yrs...

I have never done it but a guy i know used to put his out and fish it during their local bass tourneys with pretty good success i believe
