What do you prefer or have best luck with?....Stake beds, or bamboo/pvc/wood condos?...I have been dropping bamboo concret wire condos and dish pan shape oak/pvc condos....I plan on doing some stake beds made out of bamboo...Just wondering what everyone prefers..

For big slabs for us at Nimrod pallet stakebeds work best. Bamboo and other thick stuff hold lots of small Crappie. Not to say the other stuff does'nt hold any big fish, just average size seems smaller.

Anything beats doing nothing. Hope you have plenty of help. Here with the drawdown most of the help is those helping themselves GPS'n our work. Lots of folks here interested in habitat construction and talk about helping but never show at work time.

    Hi Nimrod,

I always post on the Illinois section of crappie.com when we are going to have a habitat drop....Usually no one shows up besides just a couple guys...When it comes to doing a little work...Most people won't volunteer...

Agree with all of you, on all points. Strange thing though, seems the majority of whom volunteered helping us, regardless of the types used was over the winter months, we actually had 14 persons show up in early Jan to load, transport, unload then drag them downhill 1,000+` each to below the Crabill House, surprisingly, we were done in 6 hrs, we later assembled 350+ and sank them this April past. My only explanation is either VERY hardcore fisherpersons (most are) or extreme cabin fever...was and still am gratefull to all of them, each has their own copy of the map and hope each gets their just rewards for their actions.....
