Actually, mixing tomatoes and okra together is highly toxic!!! You and your family could be in grave danger. I will be happy to take those threats off of your hands and dispose of them properly since I have been profesionally trained. If you need my assistance, I will gladly p.m. you my address so you can send them asap.:D:p

bwillaub, the okra you put up, is it pickled or just whole fresh okra or cut up okra. We put a lot of okra up in the freezer in zip lock bags after smothering them down with tomatoes and onions. I've been looking for some info on canning some but not pickled. The ones we put in the freezer are ready to eat after thawing. Just add shrimp to the heated okra and cook until the shrimp are done. Dump heaping spoonfuls on some popcorn rice for a great treat. Another way is to add a generous amount of water to the okra and make an okra gumbo with either shrimp of chicken and a big helping of tater salad on the side.

In my opinion less is better, boil whole tomatoes for 3 min then dunk in cool water and peel em. Then dice em up into a pot on the stove keepin all the juice, slice okra about a 1/4 inch thick into the tomatoes, salt/pepper to taste and simmer until okra is done to your liking. Sometimes I dice an onion in it but i simmer the onion and tomatoes until the onions are almost done before I put in the okra.
I can only wish to be as good as my dog thinks I am
