“While at the St. Johns River Crappie Writer’s Camp in SUNNY Florida, I had the opportunity to meet and fish with Crappie.com writer Ed Moes. Since we were in several boats together for the day, we decided it would be fun to make a little “wager”!! Our wager was that the first fish caught won $1.00. Well, you can see by the pictures who out-fished the other.
Funny how quickly the nick-name “Slab Slayer” was earned!!”
Everyone was calling her "Slab Slayer" all weekend. Most of you know my handle on Crappie.com is "Slab"! We all had a good laugh at my expense! Ain't the first time, won't be the last! lol
It was a pleasure fishing with Kim. You can see by the smile on her face that we had a great time on the St. Johns together. The scenery was fantastic, and so was the fishing.
She sent me this pic later, seems she is gonna hang on to that dollar for a while!
Additionally, while fishing with Kim, I was able to check out the Minn Kota Talon "shallow water anchoring system" and I really like it.
Some of the many nice features I personally like are:
- It goes straight down (does not swing out) and into the bottom with the push of a button on your remote. How cool is that.
- After it drops down, it's taps down a couple more times (thumps hard) into the bottom for a good hold.
- It has a Wave Absorption feature so you're not disturbing the bottom and loosing traction/grip every time the boat rocks up and down.
- And I also like the optional fold down feature to get it out of the way when needed or when traveling.
It has a bunch of other features too. Check out this YouTube video about it. It explains it all:
And when they say shallow water anchor, well the fact is, it's not necessarily that shallow. Here's a picture of the their 12 foot deep model, and it's folded over onto the deck of the boat showing you that feature as well.
Anyway, I really think this is the best anchor system on the market. If you're in the market for one, be sure to take a real close look at the Minn Kota Talon.
