The water levels here on Kentucky Lake have stayed pretty steady at just below summer pool. And is not supposed to vary much off the 358.8 where it is now. With all the rain we had last weekend, and the rain the areas south of us had, TVA did a great job keeping the lake levels from going way up. And when you think about all the strange weather patterns that we have had this year, TVA has really done a good job all year keeping the lake levels from fluctuating like they normally do. The surface temperatures have actually come down just a little bit. Some areas of the lake are having readings in the low 80’s.
Crappie fishing has slowed down just a little, but not enough to keep people from catching a good mess of them. The bed fishermen and the crank bait pullers have done the best this week. While the spider riggers and drifters struggled to catch very many keeper fish.
The bed fishermen or single pole anglers are catching fish in 12 to 14 feet of water around structure with the baits very close or in the middle of the beds. The most talked about baits for them have been black and chartreuse jigs tipped with crappie nibbles or straight minnows.
The crank bait pullers have done better in 16 to 20 feet of water pulling their baits close or near by a drop or a ledge. It’s hard to get a crank bait puller to tell you what colors they are doing good on. But I have heard about blue, silver, and white colored baits and also black and gold colored baits.
I have also heard from a few folks that have been using the power trolling method to catch fish. When you hear about crank bait pullers, you think about people pulling crank baits out of the back of the boat. Power trolling is a method using a heavy weight, a three way swivel, and shallow running crank baits. And they are fished out of the front of the boat with the lines straight down.
Well that’s all the time we have for this week.
See-ya on the water folks.
Thanks for listening.
