I caught my biggest Red Ear to date this weekend. 11.5 inches long and fat as heck. Barely fit in a BnM Crappie Saver it was so fat. It would not come out of the Crappie Saver once it was in it, had to press it down a bit to get it out undamaged. And undamaged is what I wanted. I released it back into the river so it would put some of them monster genes back into the pool!
You can see me in the reflection in this pic taken while I was releasing the fish.
But we did keep a bunch too. Gave them to a nice family there fishing near the boat ramp. They had caught a couple big white bass but were very pleased to receive these great tasting bream.
If you look close, you can see a River Otter in the picture above. There were actually two of them playing around and just as curious as could be. It's like they were wathing us to see if we were doing any good.
Speckanator knows fishing, and not just Crappie fishing.
We fished the St. Johns River here in Florida. What a pretty place. We fished for about 5 hours, caught a dozen nice Bream (Red Breast Sunfish, Bluegill but mostly Red Ears) and a few small Bass. During that time, about a dozen rain storms blew through. Some came down hard, others were mild, but they all lasted only a few minutes. It was kinda neat fishing though it all, particularly cause it was warm out, and there was no lightening. We threw artificial bait under bobbers which was also cool since we did not have to mess with crickets. Thanks Mike for a very fun and productive fishing trip.
Oh, here's a picture of a Red Breast Sunfish I caught. Originally, I just thought I hooked it deep and it was bleeding. Little did I know at the time that it was a Red Breast. Look at how red it is.
