Florida has a lottery every year for Alligator Hunting that myself, son in law and a few friends have been participating in for the last couple of decades. After not being selected since 2019 we finally were awarded 2 tags for my home lake this year for phase 2 which is the second week of the Gator season. I have been scouting the last couple of months and been tracking 2 big boys over 11’ near one of my fishing holes but I found out a couple of local boys got them both during phase 1 the week before we were allowed to hunt, but I had a couple back ups.

Friday 8/22 we headed out in my skiff at daybreak with 3 of us and 3 sets of good binoculars and spotted our target within a few minutes sitting on my bluegill hole next to a log.

Ran at him full throttle and he went down about 50 yards off the bow right next to the log; had livescope up in perspective mode and spotted him immediately holding tight to the bottom. 1 cast with a big treble and the fight was on.

check out the short video and I’ll be posting some pics of gator sauce piquant in the near future.

I trapped nuisance Alligators here in Hancock county for a few years. 7ft and under we had to relocate them (they were still Federally protected at that time - no open seasons). If 7ft 1in or larger we harvested if we wanted. Tags back then were $25 per harvested Gator. We had to tag the hides to legally sell them. Now we generally didn't harvest one under 9-10ft as when relocating them most worked their way back around someone's house. A quick story, I left one, a female, about 300 pounds hog tied and duct taped in the back of my Wife's pickup for the night, it was late when I came in from catching and about 3am it started rolling in the truck bed trying to get free. My Wife woke me saying "there is a loud noise out in the driveway". I told go back to sleep it's just a 300 pound Alligator rolling around in the back of your truck. She sat straight upright in the bed and said "WHAT". We were just married then and I don't think She really knew who She married at the time. (Still on Good Behavior)
