• Unexpected Toledo Bend Trip

Had an unexpected 4 day break at the end of the week right before Easter Sunday, and with the Atchafalaya River being so high right now and not having many places to go, my wife agreed to bring our twin boys and spend four nights in an awesome cabin on Toledo Bend. An added bonus is our oldest son is a freshman at Northwestern State, so he and his girlfriend were able to come and meet us for a couple of days.

Thought I'd share a few pictures of what I caught each of the three days I was able to fish. My freezer was getting really low, so I was thankful to be able to catch and clean some nice fish. The wind was really strong over the entire three days, so I ended up going to the same cove each day and fish the same bridge. Each day, the majority of the fish were on the same pilings or same brush piles near pilings. What was interesting was some of the same type of brush/same depth, etc. were completely void of fish. They were very finicky, and I only caught one fish on a chartreuse/white jig. Ended up getting live minnows, and that was the trick, even though some fish would swim right up to the shiner, and then, turn away. All fish were caught between 6-8'of water sitting right on top of the cross support between pilings or in 12-16' of water on brush or the bottom.

All in all, it was a great trip for which I am very thankful!
