The big ones got away :)

Yep , I got in two short trips today , one to each of my local water reservoirs, both about forty minutes each and on both trips the big fish got away .

First a trip while my wife was at the hairdresser, I caught ten that I unhooked and released , but had a couple of nice crappie come unhooked while wrestling them in .

After lunch , I found my newest addition t my rod collection had been delivered. A 5’6” SeaSir Stream UL rod . I borrowed a Soare XR 500 off another rod and took off for the closer reservoir at the docks .
I was doing ok , with five small gills fairly quickly off a black size 14 micro streamer jig .
The rod performed ok . It didn’t have the wand feel to it the 5’2” SeaSir does . Amazing what the extra four inches makes . The rod felt a little dead , when casting . I don’t think I was getting the distance I get out of the shorter rod .
Of course it was windy , making it hard to really evaluate the new rod as far as casting .
For fighting fish , it gets an A+ . Felt great with the little gills .
On the way back across the docks , wearing my polarized glasses I saw a bass that looked like it was starting a bed .
I cast over it , twitched up to it and felt a tap and missed the fish .
I threw back over the area and twitched the jig back into the area an KABOOM ! Game on !
The fish pulled drag up and down the bank as i coaxed it to end of the dock , hoping to get it into deeper water away from the dock . I had it on for about 8-10 minutes, worked it back toward the dock , wondering how I was going to land it on 2# Ande Mono . I was wondering if my arm was long enough to reach the water if I laid out on the dock .
Then the dreaded happened, the bass went between two posts under the dock . I worked with it for a couple of minutes before the line finally broke .
When I looked over at the light spot again there was another bass in the bed area .
I repeated my cast and KABOOM ! Another big fish on . I immediately tried to get it toward the end of the dock but it went between the same two posts on the end , halfway jumped , and dove right around a post and snapped my line .
I had a blast with these two bass . Even though I didn’t land either , I enjoyed the battles .
I feel like The first fish was definitely the bigger one , and the second one looked to be around 3-4# . I have no idea how big the first one was . The little rod was bent in an arc all the way to the handle .
If I’d been in open water , I would have had a better chance of landing one of them or both .
But what fun it was while I had them on !
Who said big fish won’t eat little baits . My micro jig is about 1” long .
What a fun two trips .
