The rod casts like a dream, the extra length helps on distance, and will go off 60' PLS screen if you give it a hard flick. Most of the crappie are soft-striking, you almost never feel a thump, just a sudden heaviness. I could easily feel it on the 73SULT Slow Taper, and when you do hook a fish, the rod fun factor is really off the charts, as Randy might say. After 2 days of fishing with it, and also my Evergreen Limber Tip, I have to give the sensitivity nod to the Evergreen - it's still the King, and my favorite rod of all time.
This lake is deep and cold, has barely broke 50F in the last day or two, but the few warm days we are having right now, and the upcoming full moon, has got the bite fired up. I typically find crappie in scattered small schools, on flats off points, and snipe them, and when I'm posted up on a flat, I toss out a wiggler where I see fish hanging near the bottom, and leave it there while I throw the jig. I almost lost a rod today to an 11 inch bull cracker. Here's a few pics from yesterday and today:
