Weather was overcast , 70 , with gusty WNW winds blowing in from about 10 o’clock.
I wasn’t very optimistic after my four hour boat trip at the sister water reservoir two days ago .
I didn’t think anything except maybe a green fish might be in close to the bank .
I took a 5’ Daiwa Presso UL , paired with a Shimano Sahara 500 , with a Nasci spool filled with Daiwa J braid .
Lure of choice was a green pumpkin Z-Man Micro finesse WormZ on a 4.5mm Tungsten jighead . Hoping to entice a little bass .
And it worked !
After only five minutes of casting I caught a nice little UL bass about 10-11” .
Got the skunk off quickly .
About five minutes later , I hooked up with a smaller little bass .
Then I went the next fifteen minutes without anything.
I fished the boat ramp , then the left side of the docks , ending up on the right side dock arm, casting in the direction where I caught the bass .
Then kaboom ! Something smashed the WormZ .
I thought I’d hooked up with a nice bass . Working it closer I was surprised to see it was a nice crappie.
I’m glad I was using 6# braid with a 4# Floroclear leader , I was able to grab my leader and lift the crappie over the rail on the dock .
Nicest crappie I’ve caught in awhile .
If I’d had a cooler with me , it would have gone home to make a couple tacos tomorrow.
Wife text me she was finished and my fishing trip ended with three fish in forty minutes.
Check out the size of the crappie in reference to the Shimano reel , makes the reel look tiny .
