• Chilly but productive trip

With the time switch, I'll be limited to weekend trips for the remainder of the season, however long that turns out to be. Thermometer read 27 here this morning but was expected to perhaps hit 50 or better this afternoon. Never made it, high around here was a chilly feeling 47 but the sun was out, the wind wasn't too bad and I wanted to another crack at some good fish. I had lines in the water at 12:50 under bluebird skies, water temp out over the basin was 53 or so. Sorry but no more foliage pics, 90% of the leaves are down and we've got just the bones of the trees showing for the most part around the pond I fished today.
First few fish were bluegill and being 8" or better, in to the cooler they went. There would be a few like this plus a couple that needed a bit more growing.

Out over the basin and deeper contours is where I found the best fish once again. I did a lot of basin drifting and trolling ahead of the wind; I'd then reel in, turn around and troll back into the wind and start the drift again. Today it worked pretty darn well. Crappie Magnet lived up to it's name again today.

I was working with 1/16 ounce heads today as the fish were down around the 20' mark. I clipped on 2 of Micanopy's hand ties and they would bring me in 2 nice perch that went on ice.
All told, 19 fish would be landed. Should have been more but I attempted to boat lift a big perch and a big crappie and both dropped off as I lifted them clear of the water. Note to self: USE THE NET, YOU IDIOT!
I haven't counted them up yet but I'm thinking I kept about 15 to make some meals out of and give away. About 10 or so of them are quality crappie; I'll get them cleaned up after supper.

Hopefully, there will be another trip or 2 but if not, this is a great way to finish off the season.

Seems like when we hook a big one we always forget we have a net. Thanks for the report.
