the shade under the bridge would just be loaded up with them , something went south down there , they rebuilt the bridge and changed the bottom with all the debris that fell in and high fast flood water moved things around and what was , simply became what was ....
the bridge columns used to hold some BIG crappie and then poof they were gone and the open water held numbers of average size fish and then poof they were gone as well ....
I still stopped by from time to time , but a single crappie was the best I could get , very frustrating to say the least ,but the river can be that way anyway and being only on the bank makes it more of challenge too.
the river bluegill were still around and sometimes I would swing in and ketcha few for grins ......
well yesteday the darn bluegill would not really get busy , a half dozen and it was time to say oh well , better than a zero .....
then silly me thunk this about that , wrong rod for long range , BUT it casts like a pro set up ....maybe move the float to deep and sing it out there before i hit the trail ....
Well by golly , Holy hot water river fish batman , the bite was steady and I landed several crappie for a nice change in venue ....

the rod was way too short and whimpy and I lost several and or got a half hearted hook set from that far out , but quite few made it to my hand for a picture ,before they went on their way ....water was super clear and warm ...
used a tiny hand tie junglejim sent me and a thill wood float about 5.5 foot deep , the river is likely around 8 to 9 feet out in the main channel , the fish were on the offside of the channel and the casts were as long as you can get with most crappie tackle , just average 9 to 10 inch fish and only one white crappie in the mix , they used to be the ones in numbers and when things changed it turned into a black crappie spot ....? go figure

sure made me happy to ketch a few down there , it's been years since they bit well ......good times for sure ...

KABOOM is near

p.s. a strong cross wind and light bites make it really tough on a short rod that far out there , just saying
