Just a moment or 2 later this nice crappie bent the rod over hard and earned a hero shot on the measuring board. He even jumped twice like his cousin the bass! He would be the big crappie of the night, too.
I slowly worked the contour along toward the deeper water and the first hour saw only 5 fish landed so my quick start quickly fizzled. I turned around and worked the same contour back toward my starting point and things picked up and would stay steady for the rest of the night. It became a crappie catchin' night once I turned; here are some pics of my catch.
You get the idea, I'm sure. Lot's of action, some really good hits and fights from the crappie tonight; I had a wonderful time slowly rowing and waiting for one of the rods to bend. Natural colors were the trick tonight and surprisingly, the Roadrunners wouldn't land a single fish. They didn't seem to want that flash or vibration. The minnow tube that hooked the first bass would stay on for most of the night, along with the Tennessee Shad Southern Pro Stinger and the green with white tail Stinger. Historically, they are a usual "go to" on this water. The Percy color Crappie Magnet would land a few as well, particularly when I stopped to do some vertical jigging.
A total of 34 fish would be landed, with 30 of them being our favorite specie. 2 nice bass and one each of a small perch and bluegill round off the catch. I left them biting at 8:20 and headed for the landing and home.
