• Diversity on the St Johns River

Terry and I haven't been having much luck catching salt water fish, so we went fishing on the St John's today. Took Terry's boat and met up with a friend of ours. Caught about 15 specks (all over 10 inches), two shad (kept them for crab trap bait), 1 catfish, a croaker, a small bass (threw it back) and a bluegill (threw it back). Started to wonder if we might catch a red there too since we were catching a little bit of everything.... Lol. Got the fish on ice and planning to have a fish fry with some of our neighbors tomorrow night. It was a beautiful day on an awesome river.

I don't care what that top 50 list says. We have some incredible fishing of all types here in many more places than those lists will ever show. I think its better NOT to have your favorite lake on the list maybe... :-)

We have been having the time of our lives. Between spending some of last winter at Lake Manatee and meeting Jamin696, Fishin813 and Luther, then going to St Johns, Monroe, and Crescent from October to January of this year and meeting all you fun and very nice people (CrappieGirl1, Phantom309, HuntinSlabs, CrappieDay, CrappieLover, you and all the other goobers) and then getting to spend some time at Mosquito Lagoon (in between working) it has been some wonderful days on the water. Thanks to everyone who has given us advice on speck fishing, cat fishing, blue gill fishing, red fishing, trout fishing, blue crabbing, shrimping, and everything else we have gotten help with.... you name it! I grew up in Central Florida and have lived here most of my life but in the last couple of years I have seen it through completely different eyes. Terry is new to Florida and we are experiencing all this together.

Oh and Terry caught a Red today with cut fresh finger mullet!

Thanks... :-) We have been having lots of fun. We went crabbing today. Below is our crab catch that we had for dinner. And we just went out for a walk and saw a man and his son coming back in on their boat with a cooler full of oysters that they just picked up off the bottom (didn't have to get them off oyster beds). Might have to try to figure out where we can find some of those. But first I have to get back to the real world tomorrow and do some work.
