I went out fishing with Crappie Masters Paul Alpers. I guess I drew the short straw. No-one else felt like going 75 miles an hour across the lake on this cold morning. You ever see those pictures of the guy with with his mouth wide open because of the force of the wind in his face. That's how I felt flying across the lake with Paul. He has one speed, pedal to the medal!
All kidding aside. I had a great time fishing with Paul. He's running a Crappie Masters Tournament, so as you can imagine that he's got all sorts of things going on. Although we did get some good fishing time in, he spent some of that time taking care of business which you just have to expect.
Anyway, we went to a spot where he picked up a 2 pounder earlier in the week. We spider rigged around for a while, picked up a couple small ones. One was decent, a one pounder, but nothing that was going to win a Media Day big fish award. Oh well, there's always next time.
That was OK, I was more just enjoying the ride, so to speak! We blasted over to the other side of the lake, spoke with a couple Crappie Masters friends Paul knew, seen them catch some nice ones, and we blasted back! It was a heck of a time, talking about everything from business to pleasure. Thanks for taking me out Paul, I'd go out fishing with you again any time. I've gotten used to those high speed runs now. I just have to remember to close my mouth! Lol
The Crappie Masters is going on here on the Harris Chain of Lakes this weekend. They fish Friday and Saturday, and the weigh in's are at Wooten Park in Tavares Florida at 4:30 both days. C'mon down and check out what they catch. I can guarantee they'll be bringing in better fish than Paul and I caught. There's more chat on the subject here on the Crappie.com Florida Message Forum if you are interested: http://www.crappie.com/crappie/florida/
I wish all the participants luck. See you at the weigh in.
Here's a picture I snuck of Jim Reedy getting ready to launch his boat. Actually Barbara is the one who does the launching, Jim sits in the boat and lets her do the work. Jim, Barbara, it was a pleasure having lunch with you. Hope you all catch some big'uns. Notice the Crappie.com decal!
