• Crappie fishing

Dr Phillip and i did a very rare thing and that is fish on a Saturday afternoon. Thankfully a lot of anglers had already called it a day. We fished from 3:30 until 5:45 pm.

We started off shallow fishing like we have done the past two trips but the cold nights the past couple of days and a lot of rain that we got from storms that went through the Tennessee valley and the lake coming up over a foot seemed to move the fish. All we caught shallow was 3 bluegills and my pet Drum.

We briefly checked one more shallow area to no avail, and decided to go look for deeper fish. Good plan. We didn’t have much time left but we found fish about 15 feet or less off a drop off and had much fun landing 7 keeper crappie, one short crappie and 2 bass.

Water temp was in the low 50’s around 53 degrees and lots of current in the river. Fish were caught on BG Lights Out and Crappie Magnets black/chartreuse with slab sauce liberally sprayed on the lure. It made a difference. My biggest crappie was 13.25” and a heavy girl.
