My father used to own a lure manufacturing business and when I started to get more into crappie fishing as I got older he got us some molds and we started pouring and painting our own jigs. At just 9 years old I poured and painted my first dozen crappie jigs. It was a 1/16oz head with purple and silver metal flake(I thought it looked cool) After painting them I paired it up with a single tail grub also purple with silver flake. I ended up catching a whopper the first time fishing it and to this day it is still my PB crappie. I remember crying because I felt bad keeping such a big fish to have it mounted. It was 3 lbs 8 oz caught at truman lake. My memory is hazy but I think at the time it was 3rd place for state record. At the time everharts outdoor ran a radio show and they interviewed me and told my story on the radio, at the time I thought that was coolest thing ever. I know this fish isn't the most giant crappie ever but I'm still proud of it. The picture doesn't exactly do it justice but I tried. Anyway fast forward several years and I stopped fishing whenever my dad passed away. However in 2020 during covid I went trout fishing for the first time and caught the bug. Since then I started bass fishing and just now started getting back into fishing for crappie and bluegill.
