• Very short crappie report

The crappie on our lake are making their annual fall migration back toward the shallows. My son in law and I went back into a big bay to fish more shallow and got into a school of baby crappie. We did have 2 keepers out of 25-30 shorts and 3 yellow bass before they suddenly stopped feeding as abruptly as they started. The bite lasted very good for a little over 30 minutes. We had about 4 doubles and I caught 6 in a row at one point.

The reason for this little report is because I have been fishing about 60 years and today I caught a crappie that had a genetic anomaly in that it had two anus fins instead of the one that is normal. I have never seen this before and I’m wondering how many of you have caught a crappie like this one.

Looks to me like that fish survived almost being dinner for something, I would guess a cormorant.

bird strike survivor is my guess , they really wound a terribly high number of fish in our state , we see wounds that heal over in numbers and that appears to be a very old healed over wound to me .
