• Bobby Garland's Watermelon Wine and Tuxedo Shimmer

I never knew Bobby Garland, but at any point in his life, I wonder if he fully understood the effects he would have on so many fishermen's lives. Maybe, maybe not. But, his baits are known to a lot of crappie fishermen and his product line is successful in just about everyone's opinion. Three years ago I went to a crappie barge on Lake Weatherford and fished with some jigs that had produced in the past and saw a number of gentlemen in my age range, catching crappie while I wasn't getting a bite.

I had to ask what they were using and one man was willing to share his secret and where he had purchased it. I couldn't believe anyone would name a bait "Electric Chicken", but after witnessing a good number of crappie hitting the bait, I was willing to make the trip to Academy to get several packages and a selection of different named baits by Bobby Garland. Since then, you could say "I'm hooked" on bobby Garland crappie baits. Yeah, I still purchase other crappie baits too, but I'm entitled to my favorites too. It was at this time I noticed the different names used to name crappie baits and for some reason it seemed to relate to my way of thinking. At my age and at this point in my life I've see a lot of changes in the way people think and approach the things that interest them.

Being somewhat old fashioned in some of my ways, but flexible enough to recognize trend changes, I've managed to recognize what works now and in what conditions, and what I think may work best for me and the way I like to fish. Versatility is a good thing. As a number of you know now, I tried my approach to the current trend and submitted my idea and was fortunate to have my entry selected as one of several winners. Names of baits do not catch fish, colors do have advantages and color combinations seem to matter too, When color combos and names enhance each other, it helps identify baits easier. We all have options of choices of baits. It's what makes for discussions and debates and even bragging rights if you want to take it that far. I want to express my gratitude to every well wisher, and even if you chose not to comment, I hope your participation in the raffles will land some of these baits in your tackle box. I'd like to see it exceed my expectations and replace the "Electric Chicken", as my favorite. I will try hard to make it happen. Thank you for making this a memorable moment in my life. Tight lines to all.

RetiredRR's winning color combo, Watermelon Wine Baby Shad by Bobby Garland

The above story was written by RetiredRR. He has donated literally hundreds of his "Watermelon Wine" Baby Shad winnings to Crappie.com. Member Swollencrappie also submitted an entry into the "Color My Shad" contest, and also donated hundreds of his Tuxedo Shimmer Baby Shad to Crappie.com. These Baby Shad will show up in Crappie.com raffles shorty.

My point in mentioning this is Crappie.com members are the absolute best. Here are two members that could have easily just kept quiet about their winning and kept it all to themselves, yet they chose to donate it to the site to share with others. I want to thank RetiredRR and Swollencrappie for their extreme generosity. I never asked for their donation, they came forward and offered it. Truly great individuals that think of others before themselves.

Bobby Garland Goodies you may win in future Raffles

As the owner of Crappie.com I see this from our members quite often. It floors me that I receive packages of donations, sometimes completely anonymously. And other times those that donate ask for no recognition at all, they ask me to keep it quiet and do what I think is best. Don't take this wrong, I'm not asking for donations. I'm just saying that Crappie fishermen are a truly generous breed that we need to honor and respect. This is why we have Slabfests. This is why we have Crappie Camps. We are generous, and we want to share our generosity with our fishing friends. This Crappie fishermens trait is quite a phenomena. I'm telling you, somebody should perform a scientific study on it.

Not to knock Bobby Garland baits, but his bait is a knock off of a Bass Assassin bait.

      IMO Jig Rig
