Fished a farm pond in Franklin Co. early this morning. No specs. There a lot of bluegill and small bass. I had always thrown little tiny rubber stuff, spinners, and fished with floats and aberdeen hooks. This morning I drop shotted for em and it was a lot of fun. caught maybe 20 all in the 7-9" range. My setup is a #4 or #6 circle hook about 8 inches above a split shot. I know a flat that tapers down to about 10-12 FOW near the dam. Figured I would start there and walk the drop shot bait down the slope till I found them. Caught them about half way down pretty quickly. Small pieces of worm and tiny curly tail jigs both were effective. Very fun to try a new technique. If you kept tension on the line, you could effectively keep a bait right off the bottom until you got a bite. The circle hooks worked perfectly.
Here is my set up and a cookie cutter 8"er
When I fish this pond I always keep 8 or 10 for a wonderful breakfast...
