I had a great trip to Michigan Crappie Camp a couple weeks ago. I've been to a Michigan Crappie Camp before and we had some beautiful weather last time, even though it was a little cold. This time it was not the cold so much, but the wind. Unbelievable sustained strong winds that just would not give up. The good news is that on the side of the lake we were on there was not that long path to whip the waters up all that much. If we were on Lake Michigan, I bet we would have seen 6 ft. tall white caps. Take a look at the video.
That tent is blowing like that even with a tarp used as a block. One tarp already blew down, and a few minutes later that tarp blew down too:
Even though it was windier than heck, we had a good time. We set up the fryer behind Yankee Doodler's 5th wheel to hide the best we could from the wind.
Steelguy caught some nice crappie that morning, even in the wind.
Kevin, Skillet007, was brave enough to hold the axe while Hermin swung the mallet.
Skillet007 cleaning his beautiful new boat up with a Dustbuster and spray cleaner. This is exactly the reason I say you never buy a new boat. You'll be spending all your time cleaning, and the first dock ding will upset you oh so much.
Fishingcouple's Gary playing whatever the name of that game is (Ladder Golf, I looked it up).
You can see the wind blocks (tarps) across the tree's at the back of this picture.
The food was awesome.
Fried Crappie.
Jalapeno Hush Puppies.
Oh, the fried stuff towards on the bottom half of this pan are fried garlic. They were really good, not as garlicy as I thought they would be.
Our hosts, Carol and Don. We thank you both so much for putting this all together. Your patience (in the face of the wind), and hard work really paid off, I know everyone had a great time. Can't wait for the next one.
The Tubb's Lake Campground camp ground was real nice. Lots of room between the spacious primitive sites.
It is Michigan, so I guess it stands to reason.
Since Billbob was not in attendance I had to fill in his role and take pictures with all the pretty women at camp:
I also wanted to mention that Fishingcouple (Tonda pictured with me, and husband Gary) are avid members of http://www.freelandconservationclub.com A local gun club that prides itself on being "The Friendliest Club Around". They hunt and fish this area a lot, and were a lot of fun to have at camp, along with their dog, a wonderful American Water Spaniel that filled Abbey's role nicely as camp mascot.
