I fished sportsman's park and sugar creek yesterday afternoon. Very slow, only 1 crappie and a few stripe. Also fished last Sunday afternoon and only caught 3 crappie including my first black nose crappie. Also saw a Osprey dive from abut 60 ft and catch a 12 in fish. He popped up and flew of with it. Hope this area improves soon. All released for another day.
Nice! I am not sure but I think them are called a Magnolia Crappie. It is a cross between a black and white crappie and will not reproduce. I have bee told they are rare. Great catch!
Yes...blacknose. We seldom catch them on Chickamauga Lake but plentiful on Tims Ford...Dale Hollow...etc. in Tn. A Magnolia ( hybrid ) is a cross between a white crappie and a blacknose and aren't as widespread. They are sterile. They are usually stocked in smaller lakes or ponds. Since they don't spawn their food energy makes them grow larger and faster than blacknose...but not in numbers. Congrats on your first blacknose !
I sure love the bite from those there what we call "Mohawk" crappie ....in these parts we have good numbers in lots of spots and they just flat whack a jig hard ....good job sir and congrats on it
