Well, after 20 years of going to Crappie Camps roughing it tent camping, I finally bit the bullet and took the plunge into luxury camping. A lot of things had to line up before this all fell into place for me. I needed a truck, and I needed a place to keep it, and I needed the right deal on a camper.
I always knew I'd get myself into a truck but it did not come until I moved to Florida. I planned to used the truck to move me, and then move my mom. Thanks Mrdux for the deal on the covered trailer I used for the move. It took three trips, and I think I'm just about done with our moves. I still have some stuff left up there in the shed (it's a big shed). But I'm hoping that can just be brought down in the truck and no trailer.
So I got the truck now. What a great thing. How come you guys didn't tell me about trucks before. I love the thing. I sit upright. My back does not hurt after 12 hours of driving at all. You used to have to pry me out of my car after even a few hours on the road. I was stiff as a board and took 10 minutesto straighten up when I did get out. In my truck, I can shift around, straighten my legs, move seat back, or forward. Tons of room. In my cars I had ONE position which quickly grew old and caused all the stiffness. Heck with the gas mileage, I'm done, I drive in comfort now. I'm just too old for sardine can driving anymore.
OK, the truck part was done, the location (the new Florida house) was done, and now I needed a 5th wheel. Well, turns out the daughter that was gonna buy my house up North wasn't going to be able to (her company is planning to move in ayear), and she needed to stay there another year. So this meant we were not going to have the money from selling the house for another year, and would not be able to get a 5th wheel for another year.
But as the story goes, wifey found one on the Internet for a real good price. It was about half what we thought we'd be paying even for a used one, so she convinced me to go look at it. Well guess what, it was junk! It was the one they use to get you in the door. OK it figures, but maybe we look at some floor plans while we're there to see what we like. We described what we wanted to the sales gal and we actually liked the first “good” 5th we looked at. Good, we're done with them, we're not buying. I never buy the first “anything” I look at anyway. We're going home.
But wait, the sales lady wants an offer. I explained that I used to sell cars and I did not want to waste their time or mine. I simply was not buying today. She insisted. I told her I was going to throw a super low number at her and we did not need to bother. She begged, so I said fine. I looked up the absolute low end NADA value on the 5th wheel (no options, nothing added) and said here you go. I did not sign anything, I just said, go tell the manager that number. She left, and I told wifey, there's no way they are going to take it. I hope you realize that we're not getting this 5thwheel. Unless they absolutely knock my socks off, we're leaving. Well, they knocked my socks off. On top of that I got them to split the the hitch & hitch installation costs. I could not believe it, I got me a new tent!
I figure the reason they did the deal was because it was the last day of the month and I was helping them make quota. You all probably know the last day of the month is the best time to buy a car, or RV/Camper too I guess.
Oct 2016, Mississippi camp at Enid. That's the last time you'll see this. No more trenching the rainwater away from the tent
