I mention this in regards to a request I made to Alan McGuckin of Zebco for some reels and rods for the Boy Scouts at my church. This would be the second year Alan has provided Zebco 33 Combos for the scouts. This year would be different; the Girl Scouts would be involved. Somehow the word got out that the boys got reels and rods last year but the girls didn’t; that didn’t set too well with the girls. They wanted to fish too. I agreed to ask Alan but I didn’t guarantee what the response would be.
I contacted Alan and without hesitation, he shipped me all that I asked for totally free. He went well beyond what I asked for by providing nice Zebco caps.
Most of these kids have never been fishing a day in their lives. It is my mission and the scout leaders to see that these kids get hooked on fishing and not the other stuff out there that destroys their young lives. It’s something they can remember the rest of their lives.
When I see things like this, it reaffirms my belief that there are angels all around us. I have no idea whether Alan is a religious man or not; really doesn’t matter. That’s the problem, we get caught up in our religion and we forget to serve.
In summing it up, all I can say is, I consider Alan McGuckin a “Good Samaritan”. Alan is definitely our neighbor. And in closing, I say to each of you, “Go and Do Likewise”. Bernard - Magnolia Crappie Club
