From SlabsRUS to Slab:
As far as the fishing goes, I have been so busy training for my next fundraising adventure that I keep finding myself wanting to train more everytime I plan on going fishing. I never thought I would see the day that I actually believed something, other than my family, was more important than fishing.
This year I am doing a fundraiser for disabled veterans. A couple disabled veterans that I have come to know started an organization called Freedoms Finest Outdoors. It is a totally nonprofit organization in which these guys take money from their own pockets and take other disabled veterans on outdoor events, hunting, fishing, shooting, kayaking, etc. They provide these events 100% free of charge to the other veterans in an attempt to help them readjust to life outside the military and get back into the things they once loved doing.
Since I am not financially capable of just giving them a bunch of money, I decided it was time to take my two good legs, and two good arms and put them to use by once again crossing the state of Michigan on my bicycle and in my kayak, nonstop, in an effort to bring awareness and some funding to this great organization, and ease some of the financial burden on the guys who are doing a lot to help others who gave so much for us.
When I did this nonstop trip 4 years ago for Relay For Life, it took me 39 hours and 17 minutes nonstop and I was able to raise $2300. This year I am 50 years old and plan on beating that time, and raising more funds. My training is going great and it looks like I should do well, now it's just all about continuing training hard for the next two months, and raising funds. If you are interested in my training fundraising progress please feel free to check out my page on Facebook at Michigan Coast To Coast For Disabled Veterans. I have a safe and secure donation account set up through GoFundMe if anyone else is interested. Here is the link to that, SlabsRUS Fundraiser
