Alabama (BAMA S) Crappie Camp

I timed my migration back to the North woods of Illinois with Alabama Spring Crappie Camp, or should I call it BAMA S camp. Lee (BAMA S) realized that the event was going to be smaller than expected (it was the first AL camp ever held), and decided to just have it at his house! So the invasion of his house began. As I arrived I see this strange Indiana vehicle in my rear view mirror, and a'm not talking about Mickey!



Come to find out it really was Mickey! Mickey Billbob! lol

And on this trip back North I had Ringo with me (the Black and White Boston Terrier). Ask Billbob about him, he'll tell you the dog has some screws loose, and I have to agree. He was nothing like Abbey, he's just not very social, and he's afraid of Thunder (and most other noises including the sound a microwave makes when it's done). I renamed Ringo after this trip. I now call him Pita. He literally lived in my car cause there were thunderstorms in the distance during most of my drive North. He would dig his way under my floor mats to hide his head. Pita!

Anyway, back to AL Camp. The fishing was great, we caught many fish of all sizes. Some really nice ones.

Heck, you did not even have to go out in the boat. Crappie Dan caught them from BAMA S's dock. I caught my biggest from the same spot, it was 15" long.



Crappie Dan used Johnson's Fish Scales with good success in the clear water. Seemed to help the finicky fish which were all too wary of our presence.







We caught a ton of fish. Please realize, this is over a couple days by many boats, in preparation for the event. A fisherman has to eat you know, and what's better than fresh Crappie, right!

Lee had lights under the dock and also about a cast out from the dock. You could always see fish. Bait fish and big fish. Some looked like big cats, some Carp, monster Bluegill the size of hubcaps. Unreal how many fish are down there and the thing is, they are so full that they don't bite!

Dang that was some good food. Can't beat fresh caught and cleaned Crappie.
